How to backup outlook exchange contacts on iPhone - solved - tutorial

English: iphone Deutsch: iphone
Recently, I have had to backup my iPhone contacts from an exchange account, to avoid losing them when my account will be removed. As numerous posts ask for a solution and many pseudo free apps propose to do it for you, I thought it would be interesting to share a better solution!

In this post, I describe a smarter way to proceed, assuming that you have a gmail account (otherwise, you can easily create one).

Stage 1 - export your contacts to a .csv file

stylized depiction of a csv text file
  1. Open outlook on your computer.
  2. Go the the outlook options
  3. Go to advanced options
  4. Scroll down to the "export" section
  5. Choose the first option: "export to a file"
  6. Choose "comma separated value format"
  7. Select "contacts" as the folder you want to export

Stage 2 - import the contacts .csv file to google contacts

  1. Open google contacts
  2. Find the import commands, and import the .csv file

Stage 3 - transfer the contacts

  1. Configure your gmail account on the device on which you want to transfer the contacts
  2. Synchronise
That's it !

If you feel this post is useful (I sure think it is !), please share its link so that it ranks better in search engines. Thanks !
